Interviews
  • I interviewed my mother, Karen Hanley, because she loves her Crocs but only for certain purposes. She admitted that although they, “look like clown shoes,” they are very practical; however, she probably would not wear them in public. She likes gardening and lounging out by the pool and is also a nurse. While gardening, she likes to wear her green “Beach” Crocs, because they are durable and comfortable. “When I am tending to my garden, my shoes are always getting dirty because working in dirt but now  can just rinse off my shoes and my feet aren’t covered in mud anymore.” Karen had said that before Crocs she would wear either gym shoes or sandals. The gyms shoes would become so dirty and uncomfortable if they became wet and the sandals would allow little protection from the soil, ultimately leaving her feet very soiled after gardening. She said that the main reasons she likes Crocs was because they were simple, could get wet with a very easy clean up if dirty, and they were cheap.
  • I interviewed a nurse at Central Dupage Hospital by the name of Wendy.  The reason for picking this nurse is because she wears Crocs everyday at her job.  She told me that she used to wear very thin soled shoes to work everyday that the hospital recommended but every since Crocs have come out she has been so happy.  She has to be on her feet for up to 12 hours a day and having a shoe like this helps her feet and her back.  She said, "Everyday when I come home from work my feet never bother me, they are so comfortable.  I even have a pair for at home too."  She told me that everyday when she is running around and doing things she never gets tried or needs to sit down, which they need in a job like this one.  The extra cushion in these shoes help support people with these kind of jobs.  The other aspect that she said to me is that the shoes are very clean so when in an operating room or in a patients room they are very safe and clean to wear.  And even if they do get dirty, its no problem to give them a quick rinse or wipe down.  The last thing she said was that as long as she is a nurse she will never stop wearing Crocs.
